In this example AADS Terminal Server for 5 users is installed. Windows
7 Professional or Ultimate is being used on the AADS Terminal Server.
There are in total 5 Remote Devices. Those Remote Devices can be PC's and / or Thin Clients.
Paragraph 3 g. from the Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate License Terms does specify:
Remote Access Technologies. You may access and use the software installed on the licensed computer remotely from another device using remote access technologies as follows:
Paragraph 1 a. from
the Microsoft Windows License Terms specifies the term "software" in these
sentences; it does apply to Windows 7.
Paragraph 3 g. can be re-phrased as follows:
Remote Access Technologies. You may access and use Windows 7 installed on the AADS Terminal Server remotely from another device using remote access technologies as follows:
Suppose the primary user of a Windows 7 PC is called
"John". Besides John there are 4 other users within the company.
In total there will be 5 Remote Desktop Sessions:
The PC or Thin Client that is used by John does not need
a separate Windows License, because John is the single primary user of the
licensed computer, and therefore is allowed to access a session from any other
device using Remote Desktop or similar technologies.
The PC's or Thin Clients that are used by the other 4 users, are allowed to access a session, if those PC's or Thin Clients are licensed to run Windows.
If the PC's or Thin Client, that is used for the Remote Desktop
sessions, for example is sold with Windows pre-installed, then as stated in
paragraph 3 g. this Remote Device is licensed to "run the software"; this Remote
Device is licensed to do a Remote Desktop Session to the AADS Terminal Server.
Please note: this is only required for the PC's or Thin Client as used by the 4 users. It is not required for the PC or Thin Client as used by John, because John counts as the "single primary user".
In total there are 6 devices:
In total you need 5 Devices to be licensed with Windows:
The Remote device of John does not need to be licensed. John's Remove Device is already licensed by the Windows installed on the AADS Terminal Server.
